Blink Subscription Plan Explained 2026: What You Get & What You Pay

Last reviewed April 24, 2026 by Chad Simpson, Editor · Methodology

Blink cameras are cheap up front. But like most Amazon-owned smart home products, full functionality requires an ongoing subscription. Here's the honest breakdown of what Blink Plus costs, what it unlocks, and whether it's worth paying over time.

    Blink Subscription Tiers

    • Free tier (no subscription) — Live view, motion alerts to phone, local storage via Sync Module 2 + USB drive. Limited event history.
    • Blink Basic plan — ~$3/mo per device. Cloud storage for that one camera, 60-day event history.
    • Blink Plus plan — ~$10/mo for unlimited cameras on one account. All cameras covered. Person detection (where available). 60-day event history.

    What Requires a Subscription

    • Cloud event recording — Without subscription, no cloud storage of clips
    • Event history beyond very recent — The 60-day history lives behind the paywall
    • Photo capture feature — Scheduled still-photo captures
    • Extended motion recording — Longer clip lengths
    • Sharing clips — Direct share of events

    What Works Without a Subscription

    • Live view from the Blink app
    • Motion alerts to your phone
    • Two-way talk
    • Local recording to USB drive via Sync Module 2

    Local Storage: The Partial Workaround

Blink Sync Module 2 with a USB drive enables local storage for event clips. This reduces dependence on Blink Plus. However: accessing those clips requires the app + Sync Module, retention is limited by drive size, and you don't get the polished cloud-app browsing experience. It's a partial workaround, not a full replacement. For buyers who genuinely don't want to subscribe, Eufy eufyCam is a better-designed no-subscription system.

    The Cost Over Time

    Blink Plus at $10/month = $120/year. Over 5 years: $600. Over 10 years: $1,200. That's on top of the hardware. Blink Basic at $3/camera/month × 4 cameras = $12/month = $144/year. Same 5-year and 10-year math as Plus.

    Is It Worth It?

For 1-2 cameras and Amazon-ecosystem households, Blink Plus is reasonable — $120/year for a complete product experience. For whole-home multi-camera coverage, subscription math gets ugly fast, and no-subscription alternatives like Eufy or Reolink quickly become the smarter long-term play.

    Subscription-Free Alternatives

    • Eufy — Local storage, zero ongoing cost
    • Reolink — POE + NVR, zero ongoing cost
    • Canary — Premium, minimal subscription
    • Wyze — microSD local recording, budget tier
